Henry
was the first officer killed in the line of duty. Henry was handling a
robbery in progress call at a liquor store at Beverly Blvd and Via Vista.
The suspect exited the store and engaged in a fierce gun battle with Henry
and other responding officers. Henry was unfortunately shot and killed.
Henry is survived by his wife and family.
In Henry's honor "Acuna
Park" located at 1600 W. Victoria Ave., was named after him. In Henry's
memory a Marker of Honor and Tree of Life was recently placed at the
entrance of Acuna Park |

Jeff
started with the Montebello Police Dept. in 1972 as a police explorer. In
1974 he was hired as a cadet assigned to working the jail and dispatch. Jeff
was hired as a regular officer on 9/26/77 and attended Rio Hondo police
academy and after graduating began working the streets of Montebello. In
1985 Jeff left Montebello and went to work for the Garden Grove PD but
became homesick and soon returned to Montebello PD where he worked patrol
and detectives. Jeff was promoted to sergeant on 1/8/89 and met an untimely
death 11/17/1989. Jeff is survived by his son Andrew Pasos. |

Terry started
his career as a policeman in the City of Beaumont, California and was a 20
year plus veteran of Montebello Police Department. During those years he
worked a variety of assignments those being a Field Training Officer, Crime
Scene Investigator, K9 Handler, Rangemaster and Department Armorer. Terry
was also selected on several occasions as an acting sergeant. Terry was
known for his joking and razing of the new guys and portrayed himself as a
rough and tough policeman even though everyone knew he was a true teddy bear
at heart.

Frankie was involved in
an off-duty motorcycle accident while riding up the Angeles Crest Highway in
pursuit of his love of motorcycle riding. Frankie is survived by his loving wife
Dalia Torres, his parents Frank & Diana Torres and brother Robert Torres.
His father Frank Sr. is an active Long Beach Police Motor Officer. Frankie was a member of
the Montebello Police Family for 3 years. He was a very popular officer to both
Administration, Supervisors and the Rank and File
Officers. Frankie left an indelible impression by his sense of humor, his
contagious smile, friendliness and warm character.

Mel was born on March 29,1945 in a Japanese relocation camp in Cody,
Wyoming. He attended Montebello schools while growing up and joined
the Montebello Police Department in June 1966. Mel was a gun
collector and a Department Rangemaster. Mel loved being a Montebello
Police Officer, he worked patrol and detectives reaching the rank of
Sr. officer. Mel also met with an unexpected death while at home in
Hacienda Heights. Mel is survived by his two adult daughters. |

Joe was a member of the Montebello Police Family for over 20 years and worked a
variety of assignments such as traffic officer, motor officer and field training
officer. His last assignment was working the detective bureau and was known a
hard working, industrious and compassionate man. Joe had a great sense of humor
and was revered for the infamous "Raccoon incident at Marano Beach"!
Joe loved his cocktails and loved his friends even more. Joe's beloved pastime
was riding his Harley Davidson with his brothers-in-arms as a member of the
Choir Boys Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.

Ed
was a member of the Montebello Police family for over 15-years and proudly
served as a Reserve Motor Officer for the majority of his time there. Ed was
known for his infectious good humor, his pleasant demeanor and his willingness
to help his fellow officers, be it reserve of regular.
Ed was also a Battalion Chief for
the Beverly Hills Fire Department and had over 30-years of service and had
worked a variety of assignments during his tenure there.
Ed was a valuable member of both
departments and will never be forgotten |

Fred
was born in Whittier, CA 8-4-40 and attended Whittier HS and one year of
college when his father became ill and unable to work. Fred quit school and
went to work to support his parents and little sister. Fred and his wife Terri
met in 1960 and married in Feb 1961. They have two sons who have presented them
with two grandchildren and one step grandchild. Fred was hired at Montebello
Police Dept. in 1968 and retired on a medical disability pension in April
1979. After two security jobs (which he did not want to do, as he called them a
"want-a-be") was all that was open to him. It eventually led to a security
consultant job and night manager at a hotel.
Fred
eventually retired in 1995 and Terri retired from the Bank of America in 1996
and subsequently moved to Bullhead City, AZ. Fred and Terri both became very
active in the Elks. Fred became the Exalted Ruler (President) of at his Lodge
in 2002 and also held Arizona Elks State positions after that.
